Welcome to Keys to Music Learning. I'm Hannah Mayo of Mayo Piano.
Krista:And I'm Krista Jadro of Music Learning Academy.
Hannah:Join us as we discuss common goals and challenges in the piano studio and offer research-based ideas and solutions to guide every one of your students to reach their full musical potential with audiation.
Krista:So it's been a while, but we are so excited to be back. Before we dive into what's in store for season three, let's talk about what kept us so busy. So in June, Hannah and I traveled to Michigan to teach a level one PDLC, which is a professional development levels course for GIML (Gordon Institiute for Music Learning). It's always just so amazing to be with a group of teachers ready to learn more about audiation and how to apply it to the piano.
Hannah:And a few weeks later, we went on a summer conference tour in the Chicago area, attending and presenting at the National Conference for Keyboard Pedagogy, also known as NCKP, and the Gordon Institute for Music Learning international conference where we celebrated Marylin Lowe's life and contributions.
Krista:And October was another exciting month. Hannah and I presented a free webinar called Diving In: An Introduction to Audiation-based Piano Instruction. If you haven't seen it yet it was recorded and is available in the webinar library of Music Learning Academy. And Hannah wrote a book.
Hannah:I did. I spent about a year bringing to life what was in my head for many years. It's a companion rote repertoire book for Music Moves for Piano, Student Book One, and it will be available for purchase in January 2024. So, more to come on that soon.
Krista:Oh, that's so exciting. And, of course, on top of all of this, we started our new teaching year. So Hannah, quickly, what have you been loving so far this year?
Hannah:You know, Krista, we have been having such great lessons this year. My students, even the ones that don't practice very often because they're so busy and overscheduled, are enjoying lessons so much. We had a great Halloween recital. And now we're looking forward to our Classics and Christmas recital, where students will be playing a mix of holiday music and standard repertoire. And what about you, Krista?
Krista:So I now have almost all of my groups of two students coming for 90 minutes. And it's wonderful. I love that we can settle into an activity without feeling rushed, knowing we have time. And amazingly at the end, they still say, "do I have to go?"
Hannah:Oh, yeah, and my favorite. "This is so fun." Well, everyone, we are so excited for season three. Our theme for this season is deep dives, where we will be exploring very specific topics like music reading, advancing repertoire, neuroscience, and so much more. And we'll be getting more in depth about each of these topics. We have also received lots of wonderful questions in the Facebook group, and we've been saving them for podcast episodes so that we can really get into it, and answer each one with a lot of detail and explanation.
Krista:And if you have been loving Keys to Music Learning and want to support the podcast, we invite you to join our new Keys to Music Learning Community. This is a community for supporters of our podcast and as a thank you, silent partners and friends of the podcast will receive the chance to attend a live podcast recording session.
